| Meet the Chicago Blackhawks! |
By Greg Wyshynski

Ed. Note: SportsFan Magazine proudly presents its 2005-06 National Hockey League preview. We've rounded up some of the best and brightest hockey bloggers and webmasters to lend their insight, humor and unique perspective through a series of questions that range from the league's post-lockout consequences to Sidney Crosby to a breakdown of his or her team's fortunes this season. Thanks to everyone who has helped out with this project, and come back every day for more previews until they (finally) drop the puck this season!
SportsFan Magazine continues its 2005-06 NHL Preview with the Chicago Blackhawks! This time, it's Mr. Miller of Wirtzsucks.com, who was kind enough to answer some questions about the Hawks and the NHL in general:
What was your reaction when you heard the lockout was over, and did the lockout change your perception of the players or owners?
What was your reaction when you heard the lockout was over, and did the lockout change your perception of the players or owners? - It changed my perception of the players definitely. Putting one's own greed over the good of the game is just wrong.
If you were in charge of marketing the NHL, what would the slogan be for the 2005-06 season?
Something like "Back and Better Than Ever" would be lame (but
appropriate). "The NHL - It's a whole new game."
Hell, I don't know.
If you had 10 minutes alone with Gary Bettman, how would that go?
I'd rip him for overexpansion and perhaps ask why he gives someone Bill Wirtz so much influence in the league. But as far as the lockout goes, he stuck to his guns and finally got done what needed to be done.
Biggest off-season move for your team, and why:
Khabibulin. I'm not a huge fan of the guy for his whiney hold-out a few years ago. But he is the reigning cup goaltender. That's something Chicago hasn't had in a generation or 2.
Biggest off-season loss for your team, and why:
For a team that needed a total overhaul, no one was really untouchable. So the guys that did go, so be it. Although it looks like the Blackhawks will lose either Anderson or Leighton as their backup goalie. Those guys I like(d).
Who is you favorite player and why? Would you still root for him if he signed with the Rangers?
Old school: Probert and/or Savard. New school: probably
Tuomo Ruutu or Tony Amonte. And if any of 'em played for the Rangers, I'd boo 'em just the same as I would ANY ranger.
Favorite "new" NHL rules change and why:
Least favorite "new" NHL rules change and why:
Quick: contract two teams and move one to Las Vegas.
Who's gone, who moved, and why?
I'd get rid of one of the Florida teams. Doesn't matter which. Also Atlanta. They failed before down there, what made the
NHL think that it'd be different this time. As for moving a team to Vegas, I don't think that market is big enough to support an NHL team. But if I had to choose, Carolina.
Fighting: Phase it out, or bring it back?
Keep it the way it is. Don't emphasize it, but don't eliminate it all together.
If you could have one wish granted for the NHL on OLN, what would it be?
Blackhawk home games aired in the Chicago market.
Over/under on the number of concussions Eric Lindros will have this season:
One and done.
If Sidney Crosby were a fast food menu item, which
menu item would he be?
Lame question, but OK. Quizno's sandwich. Mmmmm......Crosby.
Word Association time. When I say ______, what's the first thing that comes to mind?
Bob Goodenow: Asshole that tried to ruin hockey.
Todd Bertuzzi: Overpunished.
Jean-Sebastien Giguere: Overrated.
Jeremy Roenick: Good ambassador type for the NHL.
Peter Forsberg: Damn good. Not worth $11 million
per.
Finally, where do you expect your team will finish, and what do you think its record will be? What one thing will "make or break" your season? >
I think Chicago fights for the No. 7 or No. 8 spot in the West. Too many "what ifs" surround this team. The biggest, probably, is the health and endurance of Daze.
